HSR Taichung Station (高鐵臺中站) is in Wuri District, southwest of the city center. It is a transport hub in its own right: the MRT Green Line ends here, Taiwan Railway's Xinwuri Station (新烏日) is next door, and city buses leave from numbered platforms outside. Which one to take depends on where you are staying.

MRT: HSR Taichung Station (Green Line, 119). The Green Line starts here and runs north along Wenxin Road to Beitun Main Station. It is the best choice if your hotel is near a Green Line station. Fares from the HSR station run from NT$20 (Daqing, 115) to NT$50 (Beitun Main, 103a), with Taichung City Hall (110) at NT$30; Taichung Metro's last-train times put City Hall about 18 minutes away. The first train leaves at 06:00 and the last train toward Beitun Main at 00:15. Tap in with an EasyCard, iPASS, icash or a contactless bank card. Note that full-size bicycles cannot enter or leave the MRT at this station. → The MRT Green Line

Good to know: HSR Taichung Station and Taiwan Railway's Taichung Station are different places, about 12 minutes apart by train. If a hotel says it is "near Taichung Station", it almost always means the railway station in the old center.
