Taichung Itineraries

Day plans built around the five places locals send visitors to first.

Taichung is spread out, so a good plan here is about putting things in the right order. Every plan on this page is built around the five places we and the locals send people to first: Gaomei Wetlands at sunset, Miyahara, Fengjia Night Market, the National Taichung Theater and Shenji New Village. Each stop links to its own page for hours and directions, so the plans stay short and you can read up on whatever catches your eye.

Before you start

  • Get an EasyCard or iPASS. It works on the MRT, the city buses and the tourist buses to the day trips. → Transit cards
  • Taichung has one MRT line, so most of these plans use buses and the odd taxi. → Getting around
  • Stay near Taichung Station or along the MRT and every plan starts close to your door. → Where to stay

Good to know: Monday is the day to watch. The National Taichung Theater, the National Museum of Natural Science and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts are all closed on Mondays (the two museums open when a Monday is a national holiday). If one of your days is a Monday, make it the day for Miyahara, Shenji New Village, Gaomei and Fengjia.
