Planning Your Trip to Taichung

The practical side, sorted: how to get here, where to sleep, when to come and what to know.

Taichung is Taiwan's big, easygoing middle city: sunny, spread out and full of good food. It has one MRT line and a large bus network rather than a dense subway, so a little planning goes a long way. Choose where to stay with transport in mind, come in the dry season if you can, and sort out a few basics before you fly.

The one-minute version

Give Taichung two days, three with a day trip. Stay near Taichung Station for the old town and trains, or in the 7th Redevelopment Zone near Taichung City Hall Station (110) for the MRT and a direct ride to the high speed rail. Get an EasyCard or iPASS on day one. Come between October and December, the driest and most comfortable months. Fill in the online Taiwan Arrival Card before you land, carry some cash for food stalls, and you're set.

Once the logistics are done, the fun part: → Only in Taichung → What to eat → A ready-made 2-day plan
