Taichung's night markets are not all open every night, so check the day first. Fengjia, Yizhong Street and Zhongxiao Road run daily; Hanxi and Daqing, the two big open-lot markets, open four nights a week each. Here is the short answer, then a little more on each.
- First time, one market: Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市). The biggest and best known, by Feng Chia University in Xitun. → Our Fengjia guide
- Near Taichung Park and the old town: Yizhong Street Night Market (一中街夜市), the student shopping streets by Taichung First Senior High School.
- Cheap grilled food on a big lot: Hanxi Night Market (旱溪夜市) or Daqing Night Market (大慶夜市), on their nights.
- A walk from Taichung Station: Zhongxiao Road Night Market (忠孝路夜市), a single street of food stalls.
| Market | Days | Hours | Getting there |

| Fengjia | Daily | 12:00 to 02:00 | Bus or taxi; no MRT station beside it |

These are the markets' general hours. Each stall keeps its own, and most of the action starts around 17:00.
Fengjia Night Market
Fengjia is less a street than a district: Wenhua Road and the streets around it, within about a kilometer of Feng Chia University, packed with snack stalls, cheap clothes and phone shops. Look for a small sausage wrapped in a big sticky-rice sausage, flame-torched beef cubes, cheese potatoes, giant fried chicken cutlets and stinky tofu. Arrive between 17:00 and 19:00 to beat the peak crowds.
No MRT station is right beside it; Wenxin Yinghua Station (Green Line, 109) is the nearest, then a bus or taxi. → Fengjia Night Market: our full guide
Yizhong Street Night Market
Yizhong (一中, "No. 1 High") is the shopping and snacking area around Yizhong Street and Yucai Street, next to Taichung First Senior High School and a short walk from Taichung Park. Known for fried chicken cutlets, lu wei (braised snacks you pick yourself), Fuzhou buns and Fengren sour plum ice (豐仁冰).
Bus 159 from HSR Taichung Station stops at Taichung First Senior High School (臺中一中); from Taichung Station, take a bus or taxi. Best between 16:30 and 20:00. → Yizhong Street on NightMarket.tw
Hanxi Night Market
Hanxi is an open lot of more than 200 stalls on Section 1 of Hanxi East Road in the East District, open only on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is the place for cheap grilled skewers, grilled squid, Dongshan duck head, crispy pork ribs and black tea. Lecheng Temple, the old Hanxi Mazu temple, is in the same neighborhood. → Taichung temples
About 1.5 km from Taichung Station; a taxi is easiest. → Hanxi market days on NightMarket.tw
Zhongxiao Road Night Market
A single strip of stalls along Zhongxiao Road between Taichung Road and Guoguang Road in the South District, close enough to Taichung Station to walk. Vendors start opening after 16:00. Bamboo-tube rice, fried chicken, barbecue, oyster vermicelli and sugarcane juice.
About 15 to 20 minutes on foot from Taichung Station. → Zhongxiao Road stalls on NightMarket.tw
Daqing Night Market
Daqing is another big grid lot, with more than 250 stalls, at No. 208, Sec. 1, Jianguo South Road in the South District, open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Look for rou jia mo (Shaanxi pork in a flatbread), salt-crusted grilled fish, QQ sweet potato balls and garlic tofu.
Despite the name, it is not right beside Daqing MRT Station (Green Line, 115); take a taxi or a YouBike. → Daqing on NightMarket.tw
Night market tips
- Bring cash, in small notes and coins.
- Check the day. Hanxi and Daqing close on some nights. NightMarket.tw lists all of Taichung's markets and keeps a live list of what is open tonight.
- Go hungry and share. Portions are small, so a group can try ten things.
Good to know: on a Monday or Wednesday, Hanxi is closed, so go to Fengjia, Yizhong or Zhongxiao Road; Daqing opens on Wednesday.
