The 20 best restaurants in Taichung

Five at each price, from tasting menus to NT$55 meatballs, chosen by what Taichung diners themselves rate.

These are twenty restaurants locals rate highly, five in each price band. To choose them we read what Taiwanese diners write in Chinese on Google Maps and in Taiwan's food press, not just English reviews, which mostly come from visitors. We checked each one against its own menu, the MICHELIN Guide and TripAdvisor where it lists them, and dropped places that have closed or slipped in recent reviews. Google ratings are as of November 2026.

Prices are per person for a normal meal without drinks:

Good to know: hours change, especially at small family shops, so check Google Maps or call before you go. Fine-dining rooms and the busiest places fill weeks ahead; most take bookings through the inline app. Small shops often take cash only. For every starred and Bib Gourmand restaurant in the city, see Taichung's MICHELIN Guide restaurants. We are an independent guide, not affiliated with MICHELIN.
