For a night out with a stage, Taichung has a national theater, a city concert hall, a busy live house and a huge outdoor amphitheater. Most tickets are sold online through a handful of Taiwanese platforms. They work for visitors, with a few quirks, covered below.
National Taichung Theater
The National Taichung Theater (臺中國家歌劇院) is the city's main stage for opera, dance, theater and concerts, in Toyo Ito's curved building in Xitun. It has three halls and an outdoor stage:
| Hall | Seats |
|---|---|
| Grand Theater (大劇院) | 2,007 |
| Playhouse (中劇院) | 794 (proscenium) or 770 (thrust stage) |
| Black Box (小劇場) | Up to 200, depending on layout |
- Building hours Tuesday to Sunday and national holidays 11:30 to 21:00; closed Mondays
- Box office Tuesday to Sunday 12:00 to 20:00 (OPENTIX)
- Address No. 101, Sec. 2, Huilai Rd., Xitun District
- Getting there G Taichung City Hall Station (Green Line, 110), Exit 1, then 10 to 15 minutes on foot; or Bus 161 from HSR Taichung Station to the theater

Other venues
- Taichung Zhongshan Hall (臺中市中山堂). The city's concert and performance hall in the North District, at No. 98, Xueshi Rd. Shows sell through ERA (年代), OPENTIX and Kham (寬宏); the hall does not sell tickets itself. Getting there: Bus 159 from HSR Taichung Station stops at 中山堂, and routes 11, 18, 25, 35, 61 and others pass the hall.
- Legacy Taichung. A live music house at No. 117, Anhe Rd., Xitun District. Tickets through indievox. Getting there: taxi from Taichung City Hall Station (110).
- Fulfillment Amphitheater (圓滿戶外劇場). The big outdoor stage in Wenxin Forest Park, opened in 2006, used for festivals and free concerts such as Rock in Taichung. MRT: G Wenxin Forest Park Station (Green Line, 112). → Taichung parks
How to buy tickets as a visitor
- OPENTIX sells for the National Taichung Theater and many concert halls. The website takes credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay; foreign cards work if they are enabled for overseas payments. The site has no English mode (use your browser's translation), and the app is Chinese only, but OPENTIX publishes an English guide to buying and collecting tickets and runs English customer service on +886-2-3393-9888 (daily 09:00 to 20:00).
- Collecting. E-tickets go into the OPENTIX app; or pick paper tickets up at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart or Hi-Life for NT$10 a ticket, or at the theater box office.
- At the door. The National Taichung Theater box office sells tickets in person, by card or cash, from Tuesday to Sunday.
- Other platforms. Pop concerts and live houses use other sellers, such as ERA, Kham and indievox. The event page names the one to use.
Good to know: at the National Taichung Theater, tickets not collected 3 hours before the show are printed at the venue counter, so you can buy online and pick up on the night.
